This breathtaking encounter was captured by Caitlyn Earwaker, a 24-year-old veterinary nurse, and her family during a boat cruise, and they shared the footage with LatestSightings.com.
“As we cruised along the Chobe River in Botswana, we were treated to the sight of numerous animals coming to the river’s edge to drink,” Caitlyn shared. “Our guide pointed out a lechwe swimming across the river. It was peaceful until a crocodile emerged and made a beeline for the lechwe.”
The lechwe, sensing danger, quickened its pace, relying on its specially adapted long legs that allow it to power through the water. Crocodiles, though formidable hunters, rarely chase down prey; they prefer stalking and ambushing. However, this determined reptile seemed unwilling to let its potential meal escape.
The chase intensified as the crocodile snapped its jaws just inches away from the lechwe. With each stride, the lechwe managed to stay just ahead, until finally, it reached the safety of the shore.
