Get Involved and Race for Conservation

LatestSightings.com is happy to announce that “The Extra Mile” is back and we’ll be there on the day! In its 6th year running, The Extra Mile 2023 is finally here, and this time, they’re promoting both the local communities and endangered species.

Rhino (5km), Pangolin (10km), Wild Dog (21km), and Cape Parrot (Virtual Run) are the chosen events for this year. The vision and mission this year is that through this race, we will create awareness of the urgent need to protect and preserve these iconic species.

Our mission, our cause

The annual trail run takes us through the heart of the Bushbuckridge community’s villages and the stunning landscapes that border the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. It’s not just a race; it’s a call to action for basic services in these areas. But it’s so much more than thatβ€”it’s a testament to the power of a united community. It’s where we, along with fellow runners, locals, businesses, and families, go the extra mile to create a stronger, more resilient community.

And here’s the thrilling part: even if we can’t physically be together, we can still be part of this incredible journey. Thanks to the partnership with Two Red Pens, you can go the Extra Mile virtually, no matter where in the world you are. Discover all about the virtual event here!

An Adventure Like No Other

Joining The Extra Mile means we’re not just racing towards a finish line; we’re embarking on a purpose-driven adventure, carrying the dreams of our communities and the well-being of our planet with every step.

This year, a bold goal has been set: reaching 1250 registrations for both the Trail and Virtual Run and sponsoring 500 community runners. With your support, we can make it happen!

Save the Date

Circle your calendars for the Extra Mile Trail and Virtual Run event. The race takes place on Heritage Day long weekend, September 23, 2023. This year’s event will be hosted in the spectacular village of Huntington. The village borders the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve and Kruger National Park. Don’t forget, there is also a pre-registration day on September 22nd and many community education days throughout the week leading up to the Trail Run.

Together, we are more than just participants in a run; we are bearers of hope and catalysts for change. Whether we run side by side in the rural villages of Africa or choose the virtual path from our corner of the world, every step counts.

If you can’t join the race physically or virtually, think about sponsoring a community runner. Remember, every mile run and every dollar donated brings us closer to bridging the gap between community and conservation.
