Elly Gearing sent in this sighting of enemies to friends, as a pack of wild dogs cornered and fought two hyenas in an intense battle. The two hyenas in the open tried desperately to defend themselves, but against so many dogs they stood little chance.
It was a maelstrom in the dust as the dogs attacked from every angle at once. The unlucky hyenas must have been getting dizzy spinning around to try and fight them off.
The Only Shelter
One of the hyenas managed to escape the wild dog tornado, but out in the open there was nowhere for it to run before it found itself, once again, encircled by dangerous dogs.
With no other option available to them, both hyenas made a break for the safari vehicle. The shelter kept them save from the sharp teeth of their attackers, but also effectively trapped them.
The dogs weren’t about to let them get away with such behavior, as even if they couldn’t reach the hyenas, they could keep watch on them. This meant that the hyenas weren’t about to sneak away any time soon.
Keeping A Weather Eye Out
While the dogs were keeping watch on the hyenas, getting up close to the vehicle and making for an amazingly close sighting, the hyenas were keeping an eye out for a gap in the pack they might use to escape.
One of the hyenas even turned a baleful eye on the inhabitants of the vehicle, as if making sure they weren’t about to start attacking them as well.
Eventually, one of them took the risk of leaving the safety of the safari vehicle, only for the keen dogs to send it right back to its shelter as they reacted instantly.
It appeared the dogs had settled in for a kind of siege, and the hyenas might be trapped there for some time.

Habitual Enemies
This kind of extended and targeted attack against the hyenas might seem a little unfair, but ultimately these are two species that compete directly for food with each other.
Hyenas are also famous for their tendency to steal kills from other predators, although wild dogs also steal when they have the opportunity, and there’s no information on what started this conflict. It’s possible these hyenas were caught by the dogs while trying to sneak off with their food.
Despite this strong competition, the blood lust of the wild dogs seemed to wear off after a time, and the encounter somehow turns… peaceful?
Maybe We Could Be Friends
For no apparent reason, the wild dogs turn from persecutors of the hyenas, to potential friends, allowing them out of their enforced captivity beneath the vehicle and ceasing to act violently towards them
From a potentially brutal sighting, to an up close and personal opportunity to see these animals, and then to a heartwarming acceptance of each other, this one truly has it all.
One of the dogs and hyenas, mortal enemies only moments before, appeared to share a small moment of mutual understanding which signaled an end to the hostilities, and then they went their separate ways.
