The morning at MalaMala Game Reserve was anything but ordinary when game ranger Nic Nel and a group of excited tourists stumbled upon a pack of wild dogs. These adorable yet fierce hunters had just lost their breakfast to a sneaky pride of lions. Amidst the chaos, a lone hyena hung around, both it and the wild dogs too cautious to reclaim the stolen meal from the lions.

Our story takes a twist as these sweet wild dogs, known for their incredible teamwork and endurance during hunts, faced an entirely different challenge: crossing a crocodile-infested river.

The dogs gathered at the riverbank, their usual confidence giving way to visible nerves. Crocodiles, with their sneaky ambush tactics, are known to lurk just beneath the water’s surface, waiting for a moment when their target least expects it.

Leading the pack, the alpha male stood at the edge of the river, every muscle tense and alert.
Each splash and ripple in the water sent the pack into a frenzy of little jumps and nervous glances.

After what felt like forever, the brave alpha male finally mustered the courage to dash through the water to a small sand island halfway across.
The daring move encouraged some of his pack to follow, albeit in a hilariously cautious manner.

The scene was pure comedy gold. These usually confident hunters now looked like a bunch of skittish puppies, sprinting through the water with their ears pinned back and eyes wide with fear.
The alpha male greets the members when they reach the middle sandbank by licking and nudging them. Wild dogs have incredibly complex social behavior that improves the pack’s survival.
They were so adorable, yet so panicked, clearly not wanting to end up as a crocodile’s lunch.

The alpha carefully watches the water, honing in on anything that looks suspicious.
After spending long enough on the sandbank, it was time for the alpha to make his move and lead his pack to the other side. With much trepidation, he enters the water and luckily nothing is waiting for him beneath the surface.
After a moment of gathering their wits on the sand island, the alpha male led the final sprint to safety on the opposite bank.

The rest of the pack followed in a flurry of splashes, looking like a bunch of kids playing a game of β€œthe floor is lava.” Despite their fears, these sweet wild dogs made it safely to the other side.

Trailing behind was the pregnant alpha female, moving slowly and carefully with her large, swollen belly.
