The Cub Makes Its Move
A tiny cub comes trotting up to the rocks with all the enthusiasm in the world, clearly eager to join the two adults. It wastes no time settling in, wedging itself snugly between the lionesses and curling up as if it’s found the perfect spot for a nap.
For a brief second, it looks like the picture of a happy little pride moment. But the timing couldn’t have been worse for the cub.
The very instant it gets comfortable, both lionesses rise to their feet and start wandering off the rocks, leaving their small companion behind without so much as a glance back.
A Determined Little Follower
The cub isn’t about to let that slide. It scrambles up almost immediately and takes off after the two adults, determined not to be left out of whatever they’re doing. Small legs moving fast, it chases after them with the kind of single minded focus only a cub can manage.
Unfortunately for the little one, the lionesses have a head start and know the terrain far better. The cub loses their trail somewhere in the bush, and the footage that follows shows it wandering around, sniffing and searching, clearly confused about where its babysitters disappeared to.

A Well Earned Break
As comical as it looks, this kind of moment is completely normal in lion behaviour. Cubs demand almost constant attention and physical contact, and adult lionesses, even devoted mothers, need the occasional break from the near constant climbing, nudging, and nagging that comes with raising young.
Slipping away while a cub is distracted or settled is a common way for them to steal a few minutes of peace.
It doesn’t mean the cub is being abandoned. Lionesses typically stay close by or double back before long, keeping watch even if it doesn’t look that way from a distance.
