Sometimes the most incredible sightings can be sitting right there in front of you when you go to a place like the Kruger National Park. This chance lion encounter on the side of the road was one such sighting.
Mark Fox from Exploring Kruger caught these big cats on camera and sent the footage to Latest Sightings. Not only were these big cats lounging around in plain view, but they had an energetic little cub with them!
Blocking The Road
Most animals are typically quite cautious around large vehicles like cars. They might have seen others get hit when people aren’t driving carefully, or they might just be understandably a bit scared of the loud metal boxes that can move very fast.
But this lion pride had obviously grown accustomed to their presence over time as more and more vehicles come through the Kruger, and now they’d reached a point where they didn’t feel the need to flee.
In fact it was quite the opposite as the naughty lion cub in question lounged in the middle of the road, making sure that even if the cars had been in a rush to get anywhere, they wouldn’t have been able to move.

Move Along Now
An adult lioness was pacing protectively around the cub which appeared to be the only one with the pride. She was keeping a very close eye on the cars around them to make sure nothing moved in a way that might be considered threatening.
None of these cars had any real intention of moving at all when they had the sighting of a lifetime in front of them. This wasn’t just a misbehaving cub, but an entire pride of lions that had stopped for a rest at the side of the road.
As the lioness stepped over her cub, the young lion leapt up to nip at her heels and hind legs, trying to initiate a game, while she carried on walking as if nothing had happened at all.
A Bonafide Nuisance
At the side of the road the rest of the lionesses were trying to spend some time relaxing. One might think that all the cars could disturb them but it was actually the complete opposite.
The vehicles didn’t seem to bother the big cats at all, and instead it was a the little big cat that was moving from lioness to lioness trying to play that ensured none of them were having quite as relaxing a time as they might have hoped.
The little cub tried attacking another’s back legs until she raised it out of reach, and then it turned and started disturbing a second before returning to the first and attacking her legs again as she walked away.

Deadly Games
Although the cub was clearly trying to play, its target areas were perfect places to attack during a hunt. With its little claws and teeth it didn’t pose much of a threat to the adults, but this would change.
Once this cub was fully grown, then attacking the legs and necks of its prey would be an effective way to bring them down quickly and cleanly. This cub was already learning vital skills to help it survive, even if it was annoying all the lionesses at the same time.
