In the wild, a toilet is wherever an animal happens to be standing at the time. On some occasions, this can be on the side of the road in full view of the lucky safari-goers that get to witness the spectacle.

Sertorio Mshothola caught this rhino taking a bathroom break on camera, and sent it in to Latest Sightings. It’s an impressive moment that just… keeps on going, long after you’d expect it to stop.

Setting The Scene

When Sertorio began filming the two large rhinos they were calmly grazing on the side of the road. For most rhinos, life is solitary except for when it’s time to breed and raise the young.

While it’s possible that this is a rhino mother and her calf, their square looking mouths indicate they might be white rhino, which do tend to lead more social lifestyles and often travel in pairs or small groups.

The rhino towards the rear obviously had no concerns about Sertorio watching, as it began defecating almost as soon as the filming began. The other rhino was similarly moving away from a steaming pile that it had presumably left behind.

When You Gotta Go You Gotta Go

Sometimes these things just start happening and there isn’t time to get to a more appropriate location. Or more likely the rhino just thought that the side of the road was as good a place as any.

After depositing it’s massive poo on the road surface, it followed it up with an equally massive pee, as it may as well go the full distance and empty itself completely now, ready to continue grazing in the bush.

Rhino’s are among the ten biggest land animals on the planet, which means their bladders must be a similarly large size to store the amount of fluids they need to keep their large bodies hydrated.

Just Keeps Going And Going

The really impressive thing about this pee was how long it lasted. The rhino kept up a high pressure stream for almost an entire minute, and it seemed quite content during the process.

It was enough to start flooding the road with urine as it cascaded over the poo in what had to have been a gross and smelly mess. Sertorio, an attentive filmmaker, made sure to get every last moment of it on camera as it just kept going.

Evacuating The Area

The rhino was clearly unwilling to remain in the area and witness the aftermath of the flood it had created, as once it was finally finished with its massive pee it hurried into the bush with its companion.

While the rhinos disappeared, behind them ran a little river down the side of the road that might otherwise have been mistaken for evidence of recent rainfall.

This sighting might not have had all the pizzazz of a predator hunt, but it definitely had a certain something. Seeing these animals in the wild is about seeing every aspects of their lives and the way they lead them, even if that means catching an enormous rhino going to the toilet.
